Ali is a textiles artist and hairstylist making a home in Toronto. Ali (she/they)
explores time through tactile experience. Using weaving and dyeing as their main
expression of craft. As a person exploring identity through fibre, clothing, memory,
inner thought, and friendships Ali constructs woven pieces in frame as if to signify
time and space. Being in a body and sharing space with textile fibres provides
comfort and stability to look further and beyond the traditional acts of weaving and
dye.

During this workshop you will be provided with instructions on beginner weaving
with an everyday picture frame. You need to supply your own picture frame, which
can be found at any thrift store or around the house, book to textbook size is perfect starter. You are encouraged to bring any old fibre or fabric that is loved or
sentimental but ready to be let go of and made into something new. Or any old yarn, fibre, or fabric left around the house. If you have none there will be much to share. Weaving provides an opportunity to look inward and create a physical and tactile object. With others around you sharing a similar experience. You will leave the workshop with the skills of winding a warp, creating patterns in the weft (the fun
part) and sharing the traditions of weaving.

Likely General is not a scent free space. An accessibility ramp is located at the front door though washrooms are located downstairs. We always offer sliding scale prices - please choose what you are able to afford.
