After the passing of her Nonna a few years ago, Ariane became inspired by the style, strength and simple approach to life of her grandmother and women of her generation. These women were creative and resilient in the face of adversity and immigration to a new land, defining their experiences through familial comforts, traditions and craftsmanship. This series touches on the semiotics of culture, immigration and womanhood through the lens of the Italian “Nonna” and the Italian diaspora.

Ariane Laezza is a Toronto-based Photographer, Creative Director and Content Producer specializing in Visual Culture and Communications. She is the Creative Director at ArtxIndustry, the founder of Nonna Life, a lifestyle brand inspired by her upbringing and dedicated to grandmothers worldwide, as well as Style Cantina, a curated collection of vintage pieces she uses to style her shoots. She is currently exploring the world of scents as tied to memory and emotions through her latest endeavor, Proustique.
