QUEERS INSPIRE QUEERS is designed by Amanda Wieczorek and printed by Dom Press using our IF I DIE OF AIDS - FORGET BURIAL - JUST DROP MY BODY ON THE STEPS OF THE F.D.A. Typeset.
Every now and then I am tagged on platforms like instagram from artists who have used these typesets in their work and it's so special to see the variety of uses out in the world. Just a few days ago Amanda Wieczorek of Michigan based Dom Press shared an amazing design saying “QUEERS INSPIRE QUEERS” they made using my ““IF I DIE OF AIDS-FORGET BURIAL-JUST DROP MY BODY ON THE STEPS OF THE F.D.A.” font. I was so excited by this design that I am now collaborating with them to do an edition of tote bags printed with this amazing collaboration created through the open source type model. Part of these fonts being open source is the unknowability of its uses and the anonymous ways they are being disseminated in the world. I find this unknowability of its use to be an absolutely beautiful and powerful thing. My hope is that these fonts will inspire other Queer, Trans and non-binary folks to create fonts of their own to build on a robust community of type made by and for us.
From Dom Press:
PINK TRIANGLE
The pink triangle was created by Nazi Germany in the 1930/40s to distinguish prisoners who were identified as homosexual men imprisoned in concentration camps. This badge was revived as a symbol of protest against homophobia and is now a symbol of pride in the larger LGBTQA+ community.

QUEER TYPOGRAPHY - IF I DIE OF AIDS - FORGET BURIAL - JUST DROP MY BODY ON THE STEPS OF THE F.D.A.
This font was created by Be Oakley and made available by Genderfail. The letters were created from a significant photographic artifact depicting artist David Wojnarowicz wearing a denim jacket during a 1988 demonstration at the FDA headquarters. The typeset is designed only using the letters included on the jacket itself.
